From the brand, Biltwell GS Shields are replacement shields for Biltwell GS helmets, available in two styles: bubble or flat. These shields are injection-molded with highly scratch- and impact-resistant polycarbonate thermoplastic. The latest Gen-2 shields fit all Biltwell GS models, as they come with an all-new baseplate kit featuring an improved mechanism for firmer detents in three open positions. An anti-fog treatment is included for maximum optical clarity.
The construction of these shields is made of injection-molded, scratch- and impact-resistant polycarbonate thermoplastic, with a nickel-plated stainless-steel snap that secures the shield to the helmet shell. The colored shields feature in-mold tint technology, while the mirrored shields feature a reflective coating in various surface finishes to reduce glare.
Regarding safety, every shield color and style provides 91% UV/A and 99% UV/B light resistance, based on the AATCC-138 test standard. The anti-fog treatment on the shield interior helps fight moisture build-up from breathing and humidity.
For care and maintenance, it is recommended to use a mild soapy water solution and a microfiber cloth to clean the shield, followed by drying with a clean microfiber towel. Harsh household or petroleum-based chemicals should be avoided, as they can damage the shield's special coatings. If the retainer snap becomes tight or sticky, a drop of general-purpose light household oil can be applied to the inside. Additionally, a drop of medium-strength blue thread-locker should be applied to the threads of both hinge screws every time a shield is installed.
It is important to note that these shields will not work with the new ECE R22.06 Gringo S and Gringo SV helmets, as the closure has been updated.
